A position is immediately available in new England College of Optometry's Optics and Vision Science Lab. We are seeking a motivated and intellectually curious postdoctoral scholar to work on projects addressing (1) the significant question of what signals trigger myopia development in children and (2) the limitations inherent to augment reality systems significantly impact visual function while using such devices, and whether the impact of the device's limitations depends on the observer's intrinsic retinal image quality.

You will investigate optical, retinal and visual processing structures, functions and complexities of the human visual system. Knowledge of the mechanism(s) for myopia development will be critical for the design of effective myopia prevention and control treatments. Understanding the functional limits imposed by individual subjects' retinal image quality on augmented reality systems is necessary to develop improved techniques that can be effectively used by the general population.

These projects constitute collaborative research efforts from experts in clinical optometry, neuroscience, vision science, visual optics and electrophysiology. A variety of research methodologies are used, including psychophysics, peripheral aberrometry, gaze-contingent eye-tracking, biometry, custom-built multi-plane displays, electrophysiology and computational analyses.

As a post-doctoral fellow, you will join an interdisciplinary team and will help the team design the experimental protocols and will be expected to take the lead in developing and performing optical and vision science experiments, and collect and analyze data in a collaborative environment and help disseminate the results.

• A PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Optics, Vision Science, Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Optometry) is required
• Strong quantitative skills and Matlab programming ability are required
• Advanced understanding of the optical aberrations of the eye is required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with young children are required
• Optical modelling skills (e.g., Zemax, ImagineOptix) and R programming skills are preferred but not required
• Advanced statistical skills are also preferred.
