This individual is responsible for demonstrating proficiency and excellence in skills commensurate with the maximum allowances within the scope of licensure; maximizing the effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of patient care in the practice; and optimally developing an individual optometric practice within the medical/surgical practice.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Licensed optometrist in the state of Florida.
2. Two years of experience in an ophthalmology setting preferred.

1. Optometric Examinations
a. Independent patient examinations within the scope of licensure.
b. Timely interpretation of diagnostic tests ordered with appropriate patient notification.
c. Co-management of the medical/surgical patient according to state law and the by-laws of the practice.
d. Emergency patient examinations.
e. S/P laser evaluations.
f. Participation in rotating call schedule and availability for backup in complex situations.
2. Contact Lens Department Operations and Management
a. Creates and implements an operating budget for the contact lens department together, with the practice administrator.
b. Provides contact lens examinations and fittings.
c. Oversees contact lens inventory (i.e., trial lenses, retail stock, supplies, and solutions).
d. Provides guidelines regarding contact lens instruction (for insertion and removal) to be performed by appointed clinical staff.
a. Advises practice administrator of schedule changes one month in advance of conflict.
b. Documents all patient encounters in the medical record with appropriate co-signature in accordance with state law when necessary.
c. Bills for services provided in accordance with state law.
4. Community Outreach and Practice Growth
a. Schedules and performs eye health screenings in the community in cooperation with the practice manager.
b. Grows optometric and ophthalmology practice using various marketing tools, including face-to-face appointments with primary care physicians.
a. Schedules learning opportunities with the medical director.
b. Provides quarterly in-house continuing education for ophthalmic medical personnel.

St. Michael’s Surgery Center (“SMS”).
SME has been providing high-quality ophthalmology physician services to the residents of Pinellas County for over
50 years. SME is a fully equipped, state?of?the?art medical practice housing some of the most experienced and
skilled vision care specialists. SME's four highly trained ophthalmologists have over 100 years of combined
experience in performing the most advanced and complete medical/surgical care for the eye.
SME's office is located at 1030 West Bay Drive Largo, Florida. The 12,000 square foot office includes fifteen
examination rooms, five testing/procedures rooms, a full?service eye clinic, full?service optical department and
state?of?the?art diagnostic imaging and treatment equipment including optical coherence tomography,
ocular/retinal angiography, Excimer laser, retinal thermal laser and YAG and Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)
Located on the same campus as SME's office is the 7,500 square foot AAAHC accredited St. Michael's Surgery
Center ("SMS") which includes three operating rooms ...and one procedure room. SMS is separately licensed and
accredited as a freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Center that is 100% dedicated to providing ocular/eye surgery.
SMS is equipped with complex/advanced equipment including two Zeiss Opmi Lumera surgical microscope
systems (only University of South Florida has this level of technology in the Tampa Bay area), a Centurion
Cataract Vision System (only three in the Tampa Bay area) and an Alcon Constellation Vision System (only three
in the Tampa Bay area). SMS's complex/advanced ocular/eye equipment and highly trained ocular/eye surgery
clinical staff results in SMS providing more complex/advanced ocular/eye surgery than other ASCs in the area
including complex cataract surgery, corneal transplants, eye shunt implants, revision of the iris, endoscopic
ablation, retinal detachment surgery and vitreous hemorrhage surgery.
